Youth Volleyball Uniforms — What Coaches and Parents Are Asking For

In 2012, FIVB updated beach volleyball uniform regulations to allow more coverage after years of criticism that the sport was marketing bodies more than athleticism. Progress, right?

Except indoor volleyball uniform standards — particularly at the youth level — have quietly moved in the opposite direction. Shorter shorts, tighter fits, younger athletes.

Governing bodies set these standards. Equipment manufacturers profit from them. Coaches and parents are left deciding whether to push back or stay quiet.

A recent push by several state high school associations to establish modesty guidelines was met with resistance from national bodies citing “competitive standards.”

Was that the right call?
